Hello, and welcome to The Quilting Hermit! My name is Emma, and I am not a hermit. The blog is named so as to (someday) become a companion site to my photoblog, The Daily Hermit, which features a daily picture of my hermit crabs being the goofballs that they are. As for the quilting, I've been quilting since the summer before 8th grade. 4-H was offering a new project--quilting--and I thought it sounded fun. I'd been sewing since I was either 2 or 3, when my mom somehow managed to teach me how to cross stitch since my sister was in kindergarten and I didn't have anyone to play with.

My first quilt was followed by a second, then a third came a few years later (these were all hand-sewn and took a bit more time than I'd like to admit). My first sewing machine was a gift from my husband a few months before he proposed. In January of 2010, I first used that sewing machine to make a baby quilt, and I've been hooked ever since. I've finished a total of 6 quilts so far, have 2 WIPs, and intend to start and finish 2 quilts before Christmas. I intend to document those here on this blog, along with the adventure that is my life.

I wouldn't qualify myself as anything more than a beginner quilter - I finally learned how to hand-quilt curves, but haven't attempted them on my machine yet. I don't know how to hand or machine applique, but intend on learning that skill soon.

I intend for this blog to be about quilting and other sewing projects, but if I know myself it will also contain yummy food recipes, travel pictures, my awesome new home (it's an apartment that consists of the 2nd floor and loft 3rd floor of a house), and who knows what else.
